二、文体美之主要表现
诚然,每位作家的散文,都有自己的文体美;但是,就散文这一体裁本身来说,在文体美上有什么特殊要求.共同特色呢?
我想,对这一问题的回答,可以概括为六个字:精悍、清新.流动.
散文文体应当是精悍的散文的文体,首先应当是精悍的.我们从浩繁的论述散文特点的文字里,可以得出一个共同的结论:散文是一种最精悍的文学体裁.所以,仅从形式上着眼,散文的精悍,同文体的精悍是合二而一的.
散文文体的精悍,主要来自三方面:一是反映生活的集中.前面已经讲过,"集中在一点上","尖锐地"反映事物,是散文的突出特征之一.一篇散文,总是力求把一件事物、一种感受的最精彩的一点写出来.最忌材料的庞杂、冗漫.尽管有时旁征博引,说古论今,但其材料也是经过了精心剪裁取舍的.如周作人的《山中杂记》,无论从取材,还是从行文上看,乍读都给人以支离.繁杂的感觉,但仔细一读,就会发现其"杂"中有"精",似散漫而未尝无伏线.每一章文字,皆有一统一的主旨和情调.
二是语言的精确.我们说,散文的语言既要简炼,又要畅达,简炼与畅达统一的基础就是准确.没有语言的精确,状一物,写一事,费辞甚多,尚不能达情尽意,又何谈文体的精悍!杨朔的文体,是众所公认的短小精悍,干净利落的.显然这是同他语言上的精确、简炼分不开的.试以他对散文《海市》开头几句的加工修改为例:初稿是:我的故乡蓬莱是座偎山抱海的古城,景致却不错.不是小,倒也有点小小的.特别是城北丹崖山陡乱壁上的那座凌空欲飞的蓬莱阁,更有气势.你走到阁上,敛粘贷贴,倚着栏杆一望,只望见海天茫茫、那种空明清碧的景色,真可以把五脏六腑洗得于干净净.
经过三次修改,(一、二两次修改稿的文字在此从略),最后定稿发表时的文字是这样的:我的故乡蓬莱是个偎山抱海的古城,城不大,风景却别致.特别是城北丹座山峭壁上那座凌空欲飞的蓬莱阁,更有气势.你倚在阁上,一望那海天茫茫、空明澄碧的景色,真可以把你的五脏六腑洗得干干净净.
通过两稿比较,可以看出:两处较多的、重要的改动是:
(1 )将初稿中的文字:"景致却不错.不是小,倒也有点小小的"删去,改写成:"城不大,风景却别致".由原来的十五个字,锤炼作七个字.文字减少了大半,而对蓬莱古城特点的描写,却更加准确而突出了.
(2 )将初稿中的"你走到阁上,倚着栏杆一望",改为"你倚在阁上",既交待出观景的地点,又写出观景者悠然自得的情趣;而将那"一望"的动作留给下文:"一望那海天茫茫hh"这就写出了那种放眼远望的开阔气势;又将"空明清碧"改为"空明澄碧",而"清"作"澄",不仅词义更加精确,而且读起来也感到音调更加铿锵和谐了.
不难看出:初稿的文字不够准确、简炼;定稿的文字,则十分简洁,故其文体也显得短小精悍了.
三是表意的透彻.透彻,这是更深刻的精确.散文的状物写景,表情达意,不只要求一般的清晰、准确,而且还总是力求做到非常的强劲、透彻.所写的内容,不光使人一目了然,而且还要有"力透七札"之感.这种透彻,也就是老舍说的"一针见血"地把事物写出来的功夫.读透彻的描写,会使人感到有着"剥去一层"的明晰,古人云:"剥去一层,方有至理可言",犹如"凿开顽璞,方始见玉".
散文家的文字,不论是抒情、描写或议论,都应当有这种开噗见王的透彻.

一是洗去陈词滥调.一篇散文,如果文字中夹杂一些陈词滥调,就象是皎洁的夜月被云彩遮掩,澄碧的湖面漂着一些纸屑、油垢,其皎月.碧湖给人的清新之感,便消失了.
二是不断创造新的形式和文体.郑振择在《新与旧》一文里,着重谈的就是新形式的创造.他说:我们称某某体的文艺为新的文艺,乃是说,这种文体是新鲜的,是尚待大作家去运用他的,他的声是清新的,他的形是特异的,可以使厌见厌闻陈腐文体的人,心神为之一爽,并不是说所有这种新的某某体的作品都是好的.
他的文章里,还批判了所谓"旧皮袋装新酒"的观点,他说:"我们要知道旧的形式既已弃敝而使人厌倦,即使有天才极高的人,有意境极高的想象,而一放在旧形式中,亦觉的拘束掣肘,蒙上了一层枯腐的灰色尘,把意境和文才都毁坏无遗".
清新的文体,常使人耳目为之一新,精神为之一爽,具有引人人胜的魁力和长久的生命力.那些散文名字的文体,之所以使人"可爱",甚至有不少人争相模仿,其原因就在它是"清新"的,不仅在语言文字上,务去陈词滥调,而且在构思上,结构上,描写手法上,hh都有自己的创新.当前,我们散文创作的一个重要课题,就是文体上的进一步解放和创新.读者渴望读到文体清新的散文;作者应当在对于那些散文名家优秀文体认真研讨、借鉴的基础上,努力创造出自己的新文体.
散文文体应当是流动的散文的文体,应当象是一泓清泉那样的活泼流动的,而决不能如一潭死水那样的停滞和沉闷.
文体的流动,这是作者思想感情在语言文字中的有节奏的前进.我们正是伴随着这种有节奏的流动,感受着作者思想感情的发展、变化、曲折、起伏的.使人有时人新地.时见新意之感.
构成文体流动美的因素,主要是语句的变化.
短句的排比,给人以快速的流动感,象:卷地的狂风,爽利的冰雹,倾落的骤雨,震惊的疾雷,呵呵!千万铁甲中的金鼓的鸣声,无量数的健儿呐喊hh
这种急促的节奏,快速的流动,使人强烈地感受到急风暴雨、电闪雷呜、瞬息变幻的气氛.再如:过去的生命已经死亡.我对于这死亡有大欢喜,因为我借此知道它曾经存活.死亡的生命已经朽腐.我对于这朽腐有大欢喜,因为我借此知道它还非空虚.
这种流动不仅是快速的,而且是有力的,它简直象是一道急流,打着漩涡向前流去.
长而散的句式,给人的流动感是缓慢的.这种流动,是很适合于娓娓叙事和绵绵抒情的,如:进屋里来便见你的影子更显得黯淡了,我就取笔在你的影子周围描出一个轮廓,你的影子渐渐的模模糊糊地,朦朦胧胧地化为缕缕的青灰的雾痕袅移着,我凝目望那烟子直扯着一根线穿出了窗棂以后,才觉到有些什么失掉了.我惘然对着你遗留下的黑曲线的轮廓掉下一滴泪来.
这种缓慢的流动,好似一根扯不断的长丝那样袅娜、缠绵.
句子的省略,或倒置,又常常给人以跳动、闪烁感.如:"这笑容仿佛在那儿看见过似的,什么时候,我曾hh"我不知不觉的便坐在窗口下想,默默的想.作者在"我曾"后面使用了省略号;后面,不说"便坐在窗口下默默的想",而将一个"想"字,分成两个层次,在第一个"想"字后,跟进一个"默默的想",形成一种流动的跳荡和闪烁,维妙维肖地表现出作者独自默想时的思绪活动状态.再如:在这艳丽的日辉中,只见愉悦与欢舞与生趣,希望,闪烁的希望,在荡漾,在无穷的碧空中,在绿叶的光泽里,在虫鸟的歌吟中,在青草的摇曳中夏之荣华,春之成功.春光与希望,是长驻的;自然与人生,是调谐.
这里,排比、倒装、省略的句式造成一种跳荡、闪烁而又湍急的流动美.
三、文体美之构成
如前所述,文体美乃是一个"以作者个性为主导,以语言文字为基础的,诸种因素融合成功"的整体美,而不是一枝一节的美.约翰生在谈到关于作家作品的研究方法时曾经说过这样一段话:断章取义的赞扬莎士比亚,好比卖屋的人拿一块砖到市场上去做广告.研究任何人的作品,都不能以一斑论金豹,须总观全局,看它所生的总印象如何.上乘的作品的佳胜处,都在总印象,而不在一章一句的精练.
文体的"佳胜处",即"文体美",也都在"总印象",而不在"一章一句的精炼".比如前人评司马迁之文:"连山断岭,峰头参差","如画长江万里图","如大塘上打纤,千船万船,不相妨碍";评韩非之文:"如长江大河,浑浩流转",新开传奇/传奇世界/新开传奇外传,且有"渊然之光,苍然之色",评周作人文体,曰"舒徐自在","平和冲淡";评冰心文体,曰"温柔隽丽","一清如水",传奇世界/新开传奇外传,评朱自清文体,日"真挚清幽";评鲁迅文体,曰"简炼得象一把匕首"hh,很显然,这些评语,都是文章给人的"总印象",非就文章的"一章一句"而言.
作为"总印象"的文体美,是由多种因素构成的;这些因素,概括起来,不外乎三大类,一是方法的:二是语言的,三是性格的.
(一)方法的.每个散文家都有表现思想感情的习惯方法.这方法,包括构思、剪裁、结构、描写等具体特征.
一般来看:在构思上寻找意境,或找出"焦点"的构思方法,我想某人了,易使文体富有"诗画境"的精致美;反之,只牵着一缕情思,围绕一个中心(题旨)即兴发展的写法,易使文体显出"行云流水"般的舒徐美.
在剪裁上对材料,严格取舍,删繁就简,再三剪裁,其文体常如疏竹、瘦石,清朗、玲珑;反之,谈古论今,东拉西扯,旁征博引,其文体也自有一种潇洒劲儿,但弄不好,就会失之于支离、散漫.
在结构上布局精巧者,其文体显得谨严有致;大开大阖者,其文体显得气势磅礴;顺势行文者,其文体显得自由流动.
在描写上工笔细描,其文体有柔腻之美;夹叙夹议,其文体有朴素之味;冷嘲热讽,其文体必使人感到严峻刻峭;反语暗喻,其文体常使人觉得蔼然有趣.
总之,表现方法上的特征,都是构成散文之文体美的重要因素.
(二)语言的.在文体美的构成上,语言的因素,似乎比方法的因素更重要.
周作人在《志摩纪念》一文里,谈到散文流派时,有这样一段话:hh志摩可以与冰心女士归在一派,仿佛是鸭儿梨的样子,流丽清脆,在白话的基本上加入古文方言欧化种种成分,使引车卖浆之徒的话进而为一种富有表现力的文章,这就是单从文体变迁上讲也是很大的一个贡献了.确实,文体变迁的一个最重要的因素和标志,就是表现工具语言上的变化.
我们说,语言并非是构成文体美的唯一因素,但确是一个较"方法的"因素更为重要的因素.诸如:文字的精确、简炼,必然带来文体的明晰、简洁;词藻的丰富、华美,常使文体显得繁褥、浓丽;多用长句者,其文体自有一种浩瀚流转之势;而短句的排列,又使文体显得精悍、紧凑;古文成分稍多一些,其文体常有简古之风;而多用口语者,其文体自有活泼之趣.偶句,使文体凝炼.散句,使文体流动;排比,给文体增加一泻千里的气势;重复,给文体带来一唱三叹的节奏;hh
还有,如字音的清浊,语调的低昂,节奏的快慢等等,所有这语言上的种种因素,都深刻、有力地影响着散文文体的特色.而一个作家的性格,他的文体美,也是通过他的语言具体表现出来的.象徐志摩散文的那繁富而艳丽的词藻,那排比而自由的句式,那抑扬而变化的音调hh,无疑正是徐志摩的自由华丽文体的具体体现,也是其个人主义、乍喜乍愁、热烈冲动的性格的具体体现.
(三)性格的.构成文体美的因素,不仅有"方法的","语言的",还有"性格的".有人说:文体"绝对不是一个个别的品性,却是一个人所有智识和道德的总集合,适如光之于别的集合住而成为日球".这话是颇为中肯的.我们前面已经说过,在文体美的构成上,作家的性格,3·15 红黑榜下,乃是起主导作用的因素.这是因为:不论是"方法的"或"语言的"选择,无不受着作家性格的制约;同时,作家的性格,又无不暗暗透人"方法的"、"语言的"因素中去.郁达夫在《中国新文学大系散文二集.导言》里,正是结合作家性格来分析其文体.风格的.他说,鲁迅是"一味急进,宁为玉碎","尽是诛心之论",表现事物,只求抓住要害,三言两语,把主题道破,文字"辛辣干脆,全近讽刺",其文体"简炼得象一把匕首,能以寸铁杀人,一刀见血".而周作人则性喜平和、中庸,作文追慕朴素自然,故其文体舒徐自在,平和冲淡.他评论冰心,曰:"意在言外,文必己出,哀而不伤,动中法度,是女士的生命,亦即是女土的文章之极致".其它象:朱自清、丰子恺、叶绍钧、许地山hh;其文体的特征,无不一一同其生平、性格有直接关系.
只不过作家的性格在文体构成上的作用,是暗中调合、潜移默化的作用,因此,在具体分析文体构成的诸种因素时,它常常被忽略,而不被单独拿出来加以论述.
实际上,如果我们忽视了性格的作用,那么,在文体美上所表现的异采纷呈的现象,便难以得到圆满的解释.
